What are AIS140 devices?

• To get connected to the system, a MODEM is required. Unless a MODEM is installed, no data can be sent or received in or from the car.
• Depending on its capabilities, a user can gain access to GPS satellite services like GNSS or IRNSS/NAVIC, which provide location information within 2.5 meters or 6 meters of precision, respectively.
• Backs up for at least 4 hours because of its powerful battery.
• The device must be compatible with the Indian SBAS GAGAN and the regional SBAS IRNSS.
• It must be tamper-proof, water-resistant, dust-proof, and vibration-resistant.
• The SIM card must be built inside the device (e-SIM).
• A three-axis accelerometer and gyroscope that can detect sudden maneuvers like stopping or accelerating and send an alert to the driver.
• All devices must support over-the-air (OTA) firmware and configuration upgrades.
• All mobile devices must have an IMEI number and be able to use Assisted GPS.
• To be used legally, a device needs to be certified by both the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) and the relevant Regional Transport Office (RTO).
• If the device loses signal (GSM or GPRS), it is expected to temporarily store notifications and send them to predetermined recipients as soon as the network becomes available.
• In the event of an emergency, the car must be equipped with a button that, when pressed, either sends an IP address request for location data or, if GPRS connectivity is unavailable, sends an SMS.
• It must be able to back up data for at least 90 days and provide an alert if the device stops working.
• It must facilitate functional testing that ensures that all features, such as tracking, SIM card use, location precision, etc., are in working order.
